Cyber Speaks - Summative Task

The unit with the transdisciplinary theme – ‘How we express ourselves’ came to an end with the students understanding the summative task and starting preparation for the same.The students will be making  individual  presentations  using any one of the ICT  options to describe how they have grown in the last two years. Students also reflected on the attributes and attitudes exhibited during the unit. 

USE OF TECHNOLOGY TO EXPRESS OURSELVES

Students resumed their journey of inquiring into the use of technology under the theme ‘How we express ourselves’  They worked on their presentation on ‘I, me, myself’ expressing themselves through different kinds of ICT based options like Power point, Comic strips, Movie maker, Photoshop. This enabled them to  display their creativity and understanding of the technology that they had chosen to express themselves.

Students were tuned into the third line of inquiry through some videos showing the good and bad effects of technology. They reflected and shared their perspective of the importance of technology and also discussed the various ways in which it could be misused. They  geared up to do a survey to take into account other people’s views and opinions on the same and framed the questionnaire for the same.

Guest speakers for Grade 5 

Presentation by Ms. Isha- Technology as a medium of human expression

Grade 5 students are inquiring into the TD theme ‘How we express ourselves’ and learning about technology being used as a tool of human expression. As a tuning in to the second line of inquiry, which is to understand how technology can be used to express ourselves, Ms. Isha, our art specialist gave an informative presentation on the use of technology in art which is itself a medium of expression. The students as well as the teachers enjoyed it thoroughly and gained knowledge about digital art which will further help them during the unit. We already have some children in the class who are interested in using Photoshop and other interesting soft ware used in digital art.

Presentation by Mr. Karan Bajwa –a Parent volunteer working for Microsoft- Evolution of Technology 

Mr. Karan Bajwa from Microsoft addressed the students of grade 5 and gave a presentation on the different kinds of technology and the advancement made in the field of technology especially computers and mobile phones. He traced the journey of the computers and mobile from their initial stages to how they look today. Students were awed by the sheer pace of the latest developments in the field of technology.  He also cautioned the children not to overuse technology and emphasized the importance of human feelings and sensitivity. It was a very interactive and interesting session and the children thoroughly enjoyed it.

Students researched on different kinds of technology and the related gadgets like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2G and 3G spectrum, MP3 and MP 4 player, social networking, internet and many more. They also shared their research findings with the class, thereby, learning about other technologies. Students also watched a presentation by the guest speaker, Ms. Isha Joshi on the use of technology in Art which is a medium of expression thereby, tuning in to the second line of inquiry. They also watched the demonstration of Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw which are important software used in Art. Students reflected on the presentation and articulated the knowledge and understanding gained.
